Our mainstage production of Margaret Fulton - Queen of the Dessert had a raptuous response from members of the audience and critics.
The musical by Doug MacLeod (Comedy writer) and Yuri Worontschak (AFI award winning composer) was critically acclaimed at its premiere in Melbourne and Sydney audiences are even more enthusiastic.
"Delightful." Gaz Simpson Eastside Radio.
"Fun & often poignant show." Meredith O'Reilly Performer/Producer.
"This musical brims with love and energy and is almost like chicken soup for the soul.....a fun night out and a love letter to Australian ingenuity.....every bit as tasty and kitsch as Fulton and her delectable, sweet treats." AU Review.
"Margaret Fulton “livened up the nation and taught them how to cook with a little inspiration and the Margaret Fulton book”. Words of the enjoyable lively musical, Margaret Fulton Queen of the Dessert, ring true to generations of Australian and English housewives." Sydney Arts Guide Review.
The musical is based on the biography of Margaret Fulton I sang for my supper. Margaret, now aged 94, said:
"I always dreamed of being a bluebell dancer unfortunately my legs did not make the grade, so I took up cooking instead."
“Now my dreams have come true with the gorgeous Manon and cast taking on my life in a way I might have done, if I had the pins."
Playing Margaret Fulton in the Bondi Theatre Company production is Manon Gunderson-Briggs, fresh from starring in the Hayes Theatre production of Cry Baby and before that one of the Bridesmaids in Muriel’s Wedding the Musical.
Margaret's family say that watching Manon makes them feel they are watching Margaret!
