Read the full synopsis and see pictures of past productions here.
Up to ten performances at the Bondi Pavilion Theatre in the last two weeks of June.
We are looking for two talented actors (Male and Female) who can play the Ukulele at the beginner and intermediate + +level.
Chararcter Descriptions.
1. KARLA, 50, a lonely single woman who has fallen through the cracks of life. She has never married, never had kids and never had a career. She works at Pack ‘n’ Track, a private postal service, with her friends Leonie and Julie, while caring for her aged mother, and is struggling to find her place in a changing world. She’s second generation Australian, of European background, quirky, creative and smart, but a little gullible too. Beginner to intermediate standard ukulele player.
2. MALE LEAD (Everyone else). - Plays 13 small fun roles with quick costume changes (hats and shirts), including all of Karla’s ukulele teachers (inspired by real YouTube teachers around the world), club leaders and love interests. Requires intermediate + ukulele skills. He introduces the songs and explains how to play them (as per the script). Advance solo ukulule skills would be attractive but not compulsory. As Wade, Karla's main love interest, you'll sing and play two solos of one verse each.
Along with the band, you will lead the audience in the play-along songs (chords and lyrics displayed for them), after a few lines explaining the chords and how to play them.
Terms: Minimum payment per performance and profit share.
Rehearsals: At the convinience of cast and director but focussed on early June.
Dates in Theatre: June 15 to 28.
Director: Ali Bendall.
